AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to explore the predominance of literacy activities within the homes of African American toddlers in an urban setting in Mississippi. The data were collected through a Likert survey from parent participants in daycares, preschools, and churches, as well as institutions from five different parts of Jackson, MS. The results indicate that reading to/with toddlers is the most predominant literacy activity that parents conducted within the homes of African American toddlers. Taking toddlers to the library is the least of literacy activities parents conducted to enhance their children's literacy development. This study is able to help parents engage more in their children's literacy development at home and develop early childhood education programs for parents. (As Provided).
