AbstractRecent reports on Kenya have indicated food insecurity and destruction of water catchments as serious problems facing the country. Despite the tremendous strides in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the country has not taken advantage of the technology to improve food security by effectively managing her water resources. A survey on the use of ICT for Water Resource Management and Food Security in Kenya was conducted in Kericho and Uasin Gishu Districts from the year 2008 to 2009. The survey randomly sampled 282 farmers; 151 from Kericho and 133 from Uasin Gishu. A total of 34 key informants were also sampled; 16 from Uasin Gishu and 18 from Kericho. Interview schedules and structured questionnaires were administered for data collection. A qualitative method of data analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), employing descriptive statistics was used to analyze the responses. Chi-square (x[superscript 2]) test and percentage distribution techniques were used to show the relationship between variables of study. Conclusions from the study indicate that about 80% of the farmers lack awareness on the use of ICT for water resources management and food security in the two districts. The study recommends that ICT should be exposed to local communities. This will enhance water resource management and food security in the two districts and the country in general. (As Provided).
