Abstract | Presently, the universities are under exceeding strain of increasing faculty engagement and job satisfaction since due to COVID-19 the faculty is being overwhelmed by having to adapt to new ways of teaching (online, hybrid, flip, etc.) while conducting other activities such as administrative work, service, research, and continuous learning. This is especially true in the information technology field. Universities must maintain the productivity and profitability of the organization as well as keep their faculty happy and engaged, this is pivotal to keeping them motivated leading to low employee turnover. Further, management that invests in their employees to keep them satisfied eventually helps in increasing their potential and creative abilities, Ayush Jain (2018). Such a workforce has a great competitive advantage else, those who fail to keep their employees satisfied; are at risk of losing their top talented people. Virtual teaching assistants (VTAs) could come to the aid of the universities in helping them increase faculty engagement and job satisfaction this is even more valid in higher learning institutions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Faculty and university administrators have had to embrace new teaching methodologies to run their programs leading to the demand for virtual teaching assistants. This study examined the pros and cons of introducing VTAs at Harrisburg university with respect to increasing faculty engagement and job satisfaction by way of getting feedback on the questionnaires sent to the students, having one-on-one interviews with faculty members, and conducting focus group discussions with the members of the administrative staff.
