Abstract | The busy schedules of student-athletes often prevent them from engaging in career development activities that can impact their career maturity and their transition into the world of work--further making their experiences as both student and athlete complex. The study used the action research methodology to address the complexity of the problem and to create change within a Division II institution. To gain an understanding of student-athletes career maturity, the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) self-assessment was used to measure the levels of student-athletes career maturity. A student-athlete focus group was organized to capture the current experiences of student-athletes. The data collected from the self-assessment and focus group was used as the foundation to build career development interventions for student-athletes that could be adopted by the Student-Athlete Development Office at a Division II institution. The study aimed to create sustainable change that would lead to increased student-athlete career maturity and aid in the transition from athletics.
