Abstract | The problem investigated in this quasi-experimental study was to educate teachers in how to overcome generational differences that arose when educators of different generations were required to work together in a collaborative professional learning community. Perceptions of work environment and performance, collaboration, and professional learning communities were measured. Teachers participated in generational awareness professional development training. Participants were pre- and post-tested using the Performance Environment Perception Scale (Ripley, 1998), the Teacher Collaboration Survey (Zito, 2011), and the Professional Learning Community Assessment-Revised (Olivier, Hipp, & Huffman, 2003, 2010). Results indicated that teachers who participated in the generational awareness training had positive perceptions toward collaboration and professional learning communities. Further research would be beneficial to determine additional interventions to improve teacher collaboration.
