Abstract | A Leadership Covenant: School Leaders' Promise to the Community They Serve examined the leadership characteristics that are imperative to the development of the school's culture and climate and that ultimately influence students' achievement. This mixed methods study was designed to explore the perceptions of parents, teachers and school leaders of District K as to the importance of a research-based school leader's growth and evaluation process. This research data revealed that all three subgroups involved in this study valued the NJPSSL as a strong foundation for a research-based school leaders growth and evaluation process. These stakeholders displayed an affinity to ensure a school leader's professional growth and evaluation process is cognizant of the school's mission; to enhance student achievement while acting with moral character. Recommendations are offered to support the education of the district's stakeholders in order to develop a shared vision, clear understanding, and consistent implementation of the NJPSSL 2008. It is also recommended the school leaders of District K establish a plan to explore the various school leader evaluation tools to be piloted by the New Jersey Department of Education.
