Abstract	Standardized test scores can not give a complete picture of the effectiveness of reading programs--and they are no help in telling what to do about poor results. But here's a book that describes a comprehensive assessment system that analyzes both student performance and the elements of reading programs. Learn how to use schoolwide action research to empower faculty in collecting data on student progress, reading program effects, assessment practices, and curriculum materials. Get the tools and guidelines needed to integrate test score data with demographic information, performance measures, and student attitudes. And use the book's action research matrix to evaluate reading program's attention to emergent literacy, vocabulary, word analysis skills, comprehension, and reading habits.
