Abstract | The materials in this curriculum book provide examples of strategies and resources that can be used to initiate or enhance existing lessons and units in history and social studies. All the material can be adapted or modified by the teacher. The lessons are designed to encourage students to think critically about turning points in history, conduct research, interpret primary sources, and explore the larger historical significance of topics that interest them. Unit titles include: (1) "Theme, Resources, and Skills"; (2) "The Civil War"; (3) "World War II"; (4) "Korean War"; and (5) "Teaching about Other Turning Points." The lessons in the unit are based on primary sources taken from documents, artifacts, journals, diaries, newspapers, and literature of the period under study. Throughout the book are lessons and articles that promote local and family history. (BT) |
