Abstract	This book demonstrates how kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers can use storytelling and the expressive arts not only as motivational tools to develop students' skills, but also as ways to improve their own teaching styles. The book argues that when the arts are integrated across the curriculum, content becomes meaningful to students and they are motivated to learn. While supporting the use of real books in the classroom, the book shows teachers how to use existing books to create new stories and to learn to re-tell folktales from around the world, as well as how to work with students on their own stories. Many tried-and-true methods that teachers can put to immediate use are provided in the book, including: specific activities, such as stories with movement and poetry; examples of stories to tell; and drama games to enhance children's creative responses. With the methods described in the book, teachers can gain confidence in their ability to tell stories and discover for themselves how stories can effectively motivate and engage students. Appended are: a family folklore unit; storytelling, movement, and drama exercises; bookmaking; a glossary of terms; and 11 resource addresses. Contains 143 references. (CR)
