AbstractBasic material on the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe is presented in this teachers' guide in such a way that teachers can incorporate it into the daily curriculum or utilize it through special units or projects. The guide is divided into two sections, one covering the Soviet Union, the other Eastern Europe. The Soviet Union section discusses geography, education, life style and cost of living, government and the Communist Party, the centrally planned economy, and religion. Each topic followed by suggestions for classroom or individual study projects. Also included in this section are a U.S./Soviet price comparison, a chronology of Soviet history, information on the Cyrillic alphabet, and a USSR word search game and geography puzzle (answers included). The Eastern Europe section contains general information as well as discussions of these individual countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Rumania, and Yugoslavia. Maps of all countries are provided. The section also includes a 69-item basic bibliography for Eastern Europe, a chronology for each country discussed, and a word search game and geography puzzle (answers provided). (JB)
