| Abstract | This packet is designed to provide strategies and suggestions for raising awareness and taking action on issues related to quality, compensation, and affordability in early childhood programs. Specific materials are designed for early childhood personnel, parents, civic and volunteer organizations, media, and policymakers. However, many of the strategies listed for one group are applicable to others. Contents include: (1) suggested workshop outlines for various audiences; (2) tips for raising the indicated issues with legislators and other policy makers; (3) tips for working with the media and a sample press release; (4) suggestions for strategies others have used to successfully address the problem of low salaries; (5) a brochure describing the crisis in recruiting and retaining qualified early childhood staff; and (6) a list of resources for further information. Supplementary materials include a "feedback sheet"; an order form listing books, kits, brochures, and videos; a brochure on a book dealing with the problems of recruiting and retaining early childhood staff and similar material from the Child Care Employee Project.
