The following course topics are covered in the outline: parenting; understanding children (personality, emotions, needs, defense mechanisms, self-concept, development); cognition; communication; discipline; play; play safety; art; music, movement, and dance; food and eating habits; mechanics of playschool; prenatal development and birth; infant care and development; toddler development; development of the school-age child; adolescent development; moral development in children; violence; child abuse and neglect; cultural differences; laws, rights, and community resources; children's health (diseases, safety); sex-role stereotyping; theories of development and learning; special family situations (exceptional children, adoption and foster care, employed mothers, single parents, and stepparents); family life cycles; financial aspects of parenthood; and careers. The 41 appendixes include a course requirement outline, information sheets, tests, film guides, learning activities, and worksheets. (MN) |
