Abstract | These proceedings contain 12 presentations from a conference which focused on forecasts of jobs in the 1990s and into the 21st century. The keynote address (Marvin Cetron) shows the need for reform in the American education system with illustrations drawn from the economic and employment situations in foreign countries. He makes predictions of economic trends and suggests improvement in the areas of educational level, training for computer literacy, and increased teacher salaries. Five corporate executives (Fred Buck, Norman Bliss, Randolph G. Coleman, Arden Bement, and Allen Olgiate) discuss current and future employment in their respective fields: health care, entrepreneurship, services industry, industry, and high technology industry. Three educators (Larry Coon, Ronald Zambetti, and Lewis Patterson) describe the state of the art in industrial training within McDonald's, directions that two-year institutions in Ohio are taking to respond to students' educational needs, and ways that colleges and universities are planning for the future. Three representatives of Ohio Governor Richard F. Celeste (Gary Holland, Roberta Steinbacher, and Ray Lorello) outline the "strategic plan" for putting Ohioans back to work. (YLB) |
