Abstract | To portray the status of minimum competency testing programs nationwide, as of June 30, 1979, on-site visits were conducted with directors of all 31 state programs and 20 local district programs. This typology classifies and indexes the information contained in the summary and comprehensive reports (TM 800 350-351) along the following dimensions: legislative and policy history; implications for students and programs; compentencies to be tested; source of responsibility for setting standards; response mode and type of test (in-house, commercial, tailored); government agent responsible for test administration and scoring; reporting audiences; parent and citizen involvement; and provisions for special education or multilingual populations. The typology chart characterizes these dimensions as: characteristic of each program, optional/conditional, or undecided. (CP) |
