Abstract | Materials contained in this career guidance unit are designed to develop student understanding of the Ohio Vocational Interest Survey (OVIS) given by the Mesa Public Schools (Arizona) to all ninth grade students. In addition to the test, student participation includes vocabulary study, survey charts, and optional English activities. The unit relates results of the test to students' educational and vocational planning. The two-to-five week unit is developed in two parts. Part 1 leads up to and includes the administration of OVIS. A series of optional activities is included with criteria to enable the activities to be used for English evaluation. Part 2 relates the student's test results to educational and vocational planning. Both parts contain goal statements, performance objectives, instructor's information (including estimated lesson time, suggested grouping, content outline, new vocabulary, learner prerequisites, instructor's preparation tasks, resources), and a detailed outline for developing the lesson. The student booklet containing activities related to the interest survey test is attached. (TA) |
