| Abstract | This analysis attempts to consolidate frequency studies done by public broadcasting, to compile some important characteristics of potentially available bands, and to prioritize the frequency options of public service users of satellite communications. Those bands are emphasized which facilitate the transfer of public service activities to operational rather than experimental status. Factors discussed include (1) available capacity, (2) interference with existing services, (3) co-location of terminals at point of use, (4) relative equipment costs, (5) technical constraints, (6) regulatory constraints, and (7) implications of government use. Operational satellites are currently available in only one of the frequency bands analyzed. (Author/STS) |
