Abstract | The handbook is part of a series that provides project directors with a comprehensive guideline for the management of Alcohol Safety Action Projects (ASAP). It also serves as a reference on the background knowledge, procedures, and general information needed for organizing, planning, project control, evaluation, and implementation. Chapter 1 outlines the nature of the alcohol problem as it relates to highway safety and reviews the alcohol countermeasures program concept. Chapter 2 describes the organization and administration functions and related areas with which the ASAP director will be concerned. Chapter 3 discusses the six countermeasure activity areas (rehabilitation, enforcement, judicial, legislative and regulatory, licensing and regulation, and public information and education) with emphasis upon each functioning within its own milieu, providing the director with sufficient knowledge of each countermeasure activity area to enable him to understand problems and considerations leading to the integration and coordination of project countermeasures into ASAP. Chapters 4 and 5 analyze the planning and project control of ASAP management. The evaluation function and its importance to the ASAP are discussed in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 describes some of the considerations and concerns of the project director for the continuation of successful project activities. The lengthy appendix includes a resource list. (Author/EC) |
