Abstract | Practical techniques for keeping abreast of the professional literature on the teaching of reading are contained in this booklet. Topics of the six chapters are: purposes for professional reading, criteria for choosing a wise search plan, how reading information is organized, how to keep up-to-date through browsing, the ERIC system and how to use it, and how to do a topical search in five phases. Also included are a bibliography and five appendixes: sample pages from the ERIC "Thesaurus," a checklist on how to use the "Current Index to Journals in Education," the table of contents of "A Guide to Information Sources in Reading," a checklist for evaluating educational research, and a list of journals containing articles on reading.
