AbstractThe handbook provides college students and graduates with summary information about military service opportunities. All officer and enlisted personnel programs are described, along with entrance qualifications and active duty obligations. Officer programs fall into four categories: (1) training programs for undergraduates, which include military academics and ROTC programs in various branches of the armed service, (2) training programs for college graduates, available to individuals with no military training; (3) programs for students enrolled in medical, chaplaincy, or legal fields; and (4) direct appointment programs for graduates in the above professional fields, limited to persons fully qualified in their professions who can enter military service and perform their duties with a minimum amount of military training. Reserve enlisted programs require short periods of active duty for training and a six-year obligation for reserve training. Programs of the U. S. Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are also described. Educational opportunities, pay scales, and supplemental benefits for military personnel are explained according to the person's military rank. Each program listing specifies program title, entry qualifications, program description, and active duty obligation. (SD)
