AbstractOne of the implicit assumptions of the East-West Center is that Asian, Pacific, and United States grantees will learn about the nature of people who have a multicultural orientation. One aspect of such people is the nature of issues faced when the move from their "home" culture to another and back. The Center offers a seminar to train people to prepare for such reverse culture shock. The theoretical basis for the seminar is that if a person worries about a potentially stressful event, this worrying activity is helpful. The leaders do not tell or suggest that participants will have such problems, but rather that the possibility exists. The content of the reorientation seminar includes family and personal aspects of returning home, short term/long term adjustments, return to jobs and colleagues, a non-verbal behavior, and maintaining cross-cultural relations. An evaluation deals with a measure of program acceptance by standard attitude scales, a measure of cognitive learning, and suggestions for improvement. References are followed by a brief appendix with a few practical recommendations for seminary operation. (Author/KSM)
