Abstract | THE INITIAL PHASES OF A STUDY OF SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS FOR A TELEVISED PHYSICS COURSE WERE DESCRIBED. THE APPROACH, EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, PROCEDURE, AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE STUDY PLAN WERE INCLUDED. THE MATERIALS WERE PREPARED TO SUPPLEMENT THE SECOND SEMESTER OF HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICS. THE MATERIAL COVERED STATIC AND CURRENT ELECTRICITY, ELECTRIC FIELDS AND MOTORS, REFLECTION AND REFRACTION OF LIGHT. THE MATERIALS WERE ORGANIZED TO CORRESPOND TO A PHYSICS SERIES BEING TELECAST DAILY BY TWO EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION STATIONS IN PITTSBURGH. ALSO INCLUDED WERE DISCUSSIONS OF (1) THE SELECTION OF METHODS OF PRESENTATION, (2) THE DESIGN OF AN EXPERIMENT, (3) THE CONDUCT OF AN EXPERIMENT, AND (4) METHODS OF EVALUATION. THE STUDY WAS EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE VALUE OF FUTURE APPLICATIONS AND RESEARCH BY USING LARGE GROUPS OF STUDENTS AND EXTENSIVE BLOCKS OF MATERIALS.
