Abstract	The objective of this paper is to present a synthesis of the results of research on mathematics textbooks. To perform the same textbooks were analyzed from the beginning of the decades of 1990 and 2000. We adopted a qualitative approach to understand that this is suited to the elucidation of the question-problem (How occur gender representations in textbooks of mathematics?). The research is a documentary, and the textbooks are the empirical field. We analyzed the statements and illustrations of selected textbooks trying to identify how the genders were represented there. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma parcela dos resultados de uma pesquisa que visava analisar as representações de gênero nos livros didáticos de matemática de 5ª e 6ª séries. Para a realização da mesma foram analisados livros didáticos do início das décadas de 1990 e de 2000. Adotou-se a abordagem qualitativa por entender que esta se adequava à elucidação da perguntaproblema (Como ocorrem as representações de gênero nos livros didáticos de Matemática?). A pesquisa é do tipo documental, sendo que os livros didáticos constituem o campo empírico. Foram analisados os enunciados e ilustrações dos livros didáticos selecionados buscando identificar como os gêneros eram ali representados.
