Abstract | This chapter contributes to the science of sport pedagogy - the learning of sport/motor skills - by presenting an overview of the recent skill acquisition literature that has the most bearing on sport performance. Two broad conceptual frameworks inform the contents of this chapter. The first framework is the notion that sport performance is directly influenced by the interaction of factors that exist within three broad categories: the capabilities and limitations of the performer, the characteristic demands of the to-be-performed task(s), and the characteristics of the performance setting. The second framework is that an individual's capability for performing sport skills is multidimensional and often driven by the interactions between personal attributes that exist within each dimension, including physical, technical, cognitive, and emotional dimensions. Over the past several years, research on skill acquisition has included a wide range of topics. Two of the most popular topics are attentional focus and self-control. (Autor). |
