Abstract | This book is an adaptation of a series of lectures around the central theme "Inspiration from Brussels: EU involvement in sport matters as an opportunity for renewal", that were given as part of the yearly Willy Calewaert Chair at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. With the Lisbon Treaty, the EU provided a clear framework for future actions in the field of sport and this book critically reflects on this new role the EU could play, specifically in the fight against doping, health awareness, education and training, media rights and transfers and licensing systems in sport. The views and information come from 3 policy officers of the EU-Sport Unit, whose knowledge derives from direct, hands-on involvement with the subject matter. Jacob Kornbeck, who was appointed chair holder, and his colleagues Bart Ooijen and Gianluca Monte, deal with the matters on a day-to-day basis and this gives a clear and valuable insight into the role the EU could play. Besides, the editors further critically reflect upon their observations and consider current and future work for the EU in the field of sport. (Verlagsinformation). |
