From the introduction: First, the author uses the recognized criticism of mathematics education and the resulting "visions" for developing an appropriate teaching culture to justify the necessity of actively "doing" mathematics in the sense of independently asking, investigating and problem solving right from the beginning of the studies. A second level of justification refers to the realization of the many good approaches in recent papers and programmes on the reform models including standards on teacher education and modules. Finally, in order to achieve the objectives of actively doing mathematics, the author calls to mind some classical, remarkable, but until now scarcely noticed approaches, and recommends them for the integration into university studies and teacher training. |
