Abstract | Much interest is currently focused on the development of pedagogic strategies, with a view to improving the quality and efficiency of on- line learning. Virtual seminars, an important component of many on-line programmes, are characterised by intensive and continuous interaction between students and teachers and between groups of students. The authors discuss the components that should be considered, from a psychological and pedagogical perspective, in the design and evaluation of virtual seminars. Their starting point is a heuristic framework based on a process-product paradigm of instructional research. The framework includes three levels of analysis; inputs, processes and outcomes. They identify critical variables in net-based learning and set out issues to be considered with respect to input factors, the process of media-based learning, and learning outcomes. (DIPF/orig.) |
