Abstract	One of the central aims of the EUROPROF project (European research and development project on 'New forms of education of professionals for vocational education and training') is to reflect comparatively on the characteristics, trends, challenges of "professionalism" in vocational education and training (VET) in Europe. It was supposed not only to evaluate results from existing national and European Union (EU) research and development projects, but also to produce new material ... . This contribution is a shortened, modified version from a chapter of the Finnish report 'The VET professionalism of the future?', which makes preliminary remarks on results from the Finnish survey, including expert interviews, in relation to some other European countries. This presentation follows approximately the outlines of the interview schedule, proposed by the EUROPROF team. The topics are VET professionalism (including its recognition and prestige), the practices, occupational profiles and tasks of VET professionals, the education of VET professionals, changes in work-life and their impacts on VET professionalism, and the cultural context of VET professionalism. Finally some comments are made on the EUROPROF project, and on European visions and research on VET professionalism more generally, based on the experiences of the Finnish survey. (DIPF/orig.).
