Abstract | The project conducted by the Service de Pédagogie expérimentale in the frarnework of SOCRATES III.3.1. has two main objectives, i. e. to identify efficiency factors in education systems - by taking into consideration both their efficiency performance and basic equity - and to study a model for the organization and control of education systems known as "pilotage" (monitoring system). We will take a closer look at the different methods of managing the heterogeneity of students and try to point out the impact thereof by resorting to results of international surveys (IEA), complemented by a) information about the relevant education systems (mainly the National Dossiers developed by the EURYDICE network, the OECD report and Key Data on Education E. C. DGXXII) and b) results from meta- analyses. (...) Our observations will essentially be centered around contributions from major international surveys conducted by the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement).
