Abstract	This essay examines the aesthetic and social origins of a postmodern phenomenon labeled hyperreality, and the development and role of art, in order to recognize the division between these two incompatible illusions. Whereas hyperreality limits a person's engagement to reality, art strengthens that unity. To establish the distinction between the two modes of creation, I explored the realm of aesthetics from Goethe to Joyce to Warhol. Close readings of significant texts by French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, inventor of the term "hyperreality," is heavily incorporated. An intense survey of recent technological developments that obfuscate reality, such as artificial intelligence, is also included. The conclusion defines how aesthetics shape society's sense of reality in a beneficial manner that contrasts with hyperreality's attempts to limit authenticity. Although both hyperreality and aesthetics define a reality that is largely invented and accepted by spectators, the role of art is meant to educate humanity on itself, not stunt its development.
