Abstract | In this article, the author offers his tribute to Professor William Brickman and shares how Brickman became a big influence on his career and his life. He was fortunate to be one of Professor William Brickman's students in his postdoctoral program in history and comparative education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia during the academic year of 1972-73. His seminars were of course conducted not as lectures but as Socratic dialogues to which Professor Brickman contributed his vast knowledge and international experience. How much Professor Brickman served as a mentor is evident as follows: At the end of that year he was to return to Israel, where he was appointed as a lecturer at Bar Ilan University. Needless to say, his supporting letter of recommendation was a major factor in this process. At the end of the last session he asked him to stay in his office and offered him to choose any books that he might find useful in his teaching in Israel. When he arrived in Israel several boxes full of books awaited in his office. These books, many of them authored by Professor Brickman himself, became the foundation of his library in history and comparative education. (ERIC). |
