Abstract | Principals, teachers, students, and parents all have dreams for improving their schools, but often they do not have the funding to make their dreams come true. How can schools provide the additional financial support to make their dreams come true? Members of the Broughton High School community in Raleigh, North Carolina, found one answer: create a foundation. Founded in fall 2004, the Needham B. Broughton Capital Foundation is a nonprofit corporation governed by a board of directors, under the guidance of a board of advisers. The foundation operates exclusively to promote the welfare of the school. In so doing, the foundation's mission is to provide funding for proposals that will enrich and enhance the lives of students and faculty members and enhance the campus and facilities. This article discusses the five key factors that are essential to establishing a successful foundation. (ERIC). |
