Abstract | Takes an anti-essentialist approach to the gendered construction of science education, examining student subject positions generated within the dominant discourses and practices of curriculum science. Examines interview data from British secondary and postsecondary students, noting contradictions arising from gender and curriculum essentialism and highlighting the importance of both gender and ethnicity in the production or rejection of scientist identities. Contains notes and references. (SM) |
