Abstract | Explores the intent, scope, and nature of emerging networks in (British) education and examines their implications for local governance, drawing on a case study of post-16 education and a public-service management study. Recent legislative change has engendered a movement away from control by single hierarchical organizations (local authorities) to a more dispersed governance operated through a complex range of markets and networks.
