AbstractThe aim of this research is to determine and compare the perceptions (metaphors) related to the "aesthetic" concept of the students, studying in the Primary Education and Pre-School Education Departments which take part in the Department of Elementary Education and in the Art Education Department that takes part in the Department of Fine Arts Education in Education Faculties. The data collection process of the research was carried out with the voluntary participation of the 3rd and 4th year students of the Departments of Primary Education, Pre-School Education and Art Education. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 263 teacher candidates. In order to determine the perception about the "aesthetic" concept metaphorically, participants were asked to complete the sentence "Aesthetic is like ......., because .........." The data obtained in this direction were analysed by qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. Metaphors generated by the participants were divided into categories after analysing with the content analysis method from qualitative research methods in terms of their common features. As a result of the analyses made, it has been observed that students of Departments of Art Education, Pre-school Education and Primary Education emphasize that the aesthetic concept is a concept based on pleasure. The quality of changing and beautifying the environment and the case that is regarded as a surgical intervention of the aesthetic concept were the least emphasized features by the students.
