Abstract | A new approach is proposed to maximize the benefits of mentor relationships between master of business administration (MBA) students and executives by empowering students to select and recruit their own mentors, and then be responsible for managing those relationships. This mentor program is designed to be short but intensive. First-year MBA students spend 8 weeks developing their career and life goals, and then spend another 8 weeks working with mentors. A pilot study is used to test this approach and provide recommendations to other graduate faculty and staff members interested in implementing a mentor program that empowers the protégé.
