Abstract | Social and emotional learning is often cited as a means through which to improve equity outcomes for learners from historically underserved populations. The research compiled in this review shows how social and emotional skills are intertwined with meeting the needs of all students, and particularly those from historically underserved populations. It is critical that scholars in the field of social and emotional learning fully understand these connections and further unpack causal mechanisms in order to develop solutions that can increase equity outcomes and help all students succeed.
