Abstract | This qualitative phenomenological study explored identifying characteristics and necessary components of educational innovation in K12 international schools in Asia. Two research questions guided the exploration of observed characteristics of innovation and global leader's perceptions of components of innovation. The findings suggested observed characteristics include the freedom to fail, a learner centered approach, and a use of spaces. Furthermore, the leader's perceptions of components of innovation included support, collaboration, communication, and the need to be connected or networked. These observed characteristics and global leaders perceived components provide a useful guide for schools desiring to innovate.
