Abstract	A school-family-community partnership to improve student achievement was examined at a comprehensive high school located in a low income urban community in Long Island City, New York. In this causal comparative analyses study, the researcher examines the effect of a school-family-community partnership on the educational outcomes of economically disadvantaged youth. The school-family-community partnership in the study is the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), a federally funded program by the U.S. Department of Education. The program is designed to increase the academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education for GEAR UP students; increase the rate of high school graduation and postsecondary enrollment for students; and increase students and their families' knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation, and financing. GEAR UP provides a plethora of services. This researcher examined the impact of academic and community support services and the effect they may have on student achievement and academic outcomes. Additionally, parental engagement was assessed to determine its relationship with students' outcomes. Data for 294 high school seniors were collected using (a) the academic transcript (i.e. GPAs, credits earned, high school completion); (b) standardized test scores (i.e., Regents and SATs); (c) project service hours; (d) GEAR UP student questionnaire; (e) a parent survey; (f) college enrollment status; (g) focus groups; and (h) interviews with GEAR UP alumni. Results indicated that GEAR UP has the potential to increase student achievement, high school graduation, and college enrollment rates of project participants. The researcher showed the types of services students perceived to have a positive influence on their overall outcomes; how the program was implemented; and potential outcomes that can be achieved when schools, families, and community members unite to address the academic and social needs of low-income students.
