Abstract | The purpose of this qualitative study, which utilized a case study approach, was to evaluate administrator's perceptions of the role of high school counselors. To evaluate those perceptions, the researcher analyzed data collected from two focus group interviews. The focus group interviews were conducted utilizing administrators employed at two high schools in a Middle Georgia School District. The qualitative study examined the administrator's perceptions utilizing descriptive analysis to determine how their perceptions contributed to performance of non-counseling duties, thus affecting the job of school counselors, as well as student achievement. The findings from the qualitative data analysis indicated that administrator's perceived the counselor's role as positively impacting student achievement in that counselors participate in student-related duties such as behavioral and academic counseling, conflict resolution and student placement. Furthermore, more students are participating in Advanced Placement courses, staying on track for graduation and graduation rates have increased.
