| Abstract | Written for the seventh- and eighth-grade levels, this workbook gives students practice in using context clues and reading comprehension to apply punctuation rules, as well as in carefully reading and following directions. Noting that the activities are based on the idea that punctuation is necessary to make written communication clear, the introduction states that with these activities, students must use context clues for analyzing, comparing, contrasting, and deducing. After the introduction, the activities are: Comma Series (Items in a Series); Comma: Who's Being Addressed (Noun of Address); Comma: One Word Beginnings (Introductory Words); Comma: Beginning Phrase or Clause; Comma: Separate State (City and State); Comma: Addresses (Street, City, and State); Comma: Around the Year (Month, Day, Year); Comma: Who Says What (Comma and Quotation Marks in Dialogue); Comma: Conjunctions--Tie It Up; Comma: Interrupters; Comma: Explain It (Nonessential (Nonrestrictive) Appositives); Comma: Explain It (Essential (Restrictive) Appositives); Question Mark/Period: Questionable Endings; Exclamation/Question Marks; Apostrophe: Leaving Out Letters (Contractions); Apostrophe: Who's an Owner (Possessives); Quotation Marks: Quotation or Title?; Semicolon Series; and Semicolon: Related Independent Clauses.
