Abstract | Following an introduction ("Return on Investment in Training" by Andrew Smith) that provides an overview and a synopsis of research findings, the following five chapters of this book present the results of five research projects funded by the National Research and Evaluation Committee in Australia in 1999-2000. The first four of these projects examined the returns to enterprises of their investments in training using a variety of methodologies including case studies and surveys. The fifth project was part of a suite of work that investigated the development of training and learning cultures in Australian enterprises, emphasizing non-financial returns to training. The following reports are included: "Training and Economic Returns to Workers" (Michael Long); "Showing That Enterprise Training Pays: Lessons from the Literature" (Janelle Moy); "Does Training Pay? Evidence from Australian Enterprises" Richard Blandy, et al.); "Enterprise Return on a Training Investment" (Chris Doucouliagos and Pasquale Sgro); "What Works for Us May Not Work for You" (Leo Maglen and Sonnie Hopkins"; and "What Convinces Enterprises To Value Training and Learning, and What Does Not?" (Jane Figgis). Each of the chapters contains extensive reference lists. (KC) |
