AbstractThis guide is designed to assist districts in developing and implementing Curriculum-Based Vocational Assessment (CBVA) as an integral part of the career/vocational program for students with disabilities. The document begins with a User's Guide that describes each part of the guide and makes suggestions for its use. Part 1 explains what CBVA is and traces its origin, cites benefits of using CBVA, addresses its relationship to national initiatives, traces the stages of CBVA data collection, clarifies who participates and benefits, how and what information is collected, and provides information on CBVA activities in Florida. Part 2 presents the rationale for using CBVA and explains how it is related to key state initiatives and how to use CBVA as a decision-making tool. Part 3 outlines a process for planning, developing, and implementing CBVA. Topics are as follows: the team process, team decisions, design of the CBVA rating forms, rating schedules, training, and monetary support. Part 4 highlights strategies used to implement the CBVA process in five school districts. Sample district CBVA material is included. Appendixes include the following: CBVA Handbook, a blank outline of the recommended parts of a local CBVA handbook; example program marketing and maintenance materials; training materials for staff development activities; sample CBVA rating forms for courses such as exceptional student education (ESE) academic classes, ESE vocational classes, and regular vocational job preparatory classes; and selected articles from the CBVA Update Newsletter, 1992-97.
