Abstract | This document is a guide to resources supporting the development of educational standards for students. Section 1, Industry Skill Standards, describes and provides contact information of resources on the efforts of the National Skill Standards Board to develop industry skill standards for all sectors of the American economy. The section addresses these topics: the board's current efforts in the development of voluntary partnerships in 16 broad economic sectors; grants to industry and research groups to further develop and demonstrate how skill standards would be used in specific industries and occupations; and building linkages with both academic standards and school-to-work efforts. Section 2, Academic Skill Standards, provides names and contact information for seven national organizations in the process of developing and adopting national standards in academic subject areas. Section 3, Other Standards Resources, provides names, contact information, and brief descriptions of 20 organizations involved in developing standards, both academic and vocational. Section 4, Standards for Teachers, discusses and provides contact information for three organizations that have developed standards for teacher licensing, advanced certification, and teacher education program accreditation. Section 5, Vocational Student Organizations (VSOs), describes and provides contact information on seven VSOs. Section 6 contains 11 references. (YLB) |
