AbstractInformation on programs that address special needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds who attend private colleges and universities in New York State is provided in separate English and Spanish reports. The Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) provides supportive services and financial aid. Information is provided on: eligibility for HEOP, how to apply, types of supportive services that are provided, how to pay for college, economic eligibility criteria for HEOP, the names and addresses of private institutions that offer HEOP programs; and sources of additional information. Supportive services include: remedial and developmental courses, tutorial services, counseling, academic advising, personal counseling, and career counseling. Students eligible for the program must be economically and educationally disadvantaged, a resident of New York State for 1 year preceding the term of entry into HEOP, and must possess a high school diploma or state-approved equivalency diploma or its equivalent and have the potential and motivation for successful completion of college.
