Abstract | This textbook was developed for use in a Concordia University (Quebec) course entitled "Communication Analysis of Environment." Designed as a practical application of information theory and cybernetics in the field of communication studies, the course is intended to be a self-instructional process, whereby each student chooses one information complex and studies it individually, through field observations, laboratory tests, readings, notations, design sketches, and measurement, as advised by the professor. The textbook includes a course description and discussions of the following topics: "The Process of Communication Analysis Related to Information Complexes and to Film and Television Location Assessment,""Basic Classification of Elements in the Communication Analysis of an Information Complex,""Methodology of Communication Analysis of the Environment,""Communication Analysis Protocols for Visual and Audio-Visual Information Complexes," and "Communication Analysis of Sound Information Complexes." Illustrations of various methods of classifying elements in the communication analysis of an information complex are appended; and a 25-item bibliography is provided. (KM) |
