Abstract | A curriculum guide for a federally-funded demonstration project in English-as-a-second-language instruction for parents and their high school aged children is presented. The purpose of the program is to promote family participation in the school and community. The guide includes the following sections: descriptions of the project and of the adult and high school students' characteristics; brief notes on language teaching methods and content; a description of the classroom organization for both groups; an annotated bibliography of recommended texts and supplemental materials; an annotated list of related published resources; course outlines for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced courses, including performance objectives, experiences and activities, and useful resources; a checklist of proficiencies in each content area for each level; teacher strategies and lesson plans for each level; and notes on procedures for specific types of instruction (vocabulary, grammar, chain drill, and instructional games).
