Abstract | Preferences of students who take a Saturday class at the University of Wisconsin Center-Waukesha County were determined through a spring 1985 survey. Of the 185 Saturday students, 158 completed the survey. Findings include: the majority of the Saturday students are nontraditional-aged students, employed full time, and about two-thirds are women; Saturday students are a combination of continuing students, new students, and students who have stopped out for at least a semester; continuing students are carrying more credits with the expanded Saturday program, compared to their fall 1984 semester load; most Saturday students have plans for at least a bachelor's degree; these students are returning to campus during the week to take other courses in the daytime or evening, but few have enrolled in two Saturday classes; Saturday students preferred Saturday morning class times over other possibilities; most respondents intend to take another Saturday class; most want a greater variety of courses offered on Saturday; and the timetable mailer is the most effective method of informing students about the Saturday program. Based on the survey responses, 11 recommendations about the Saturday program are offered. The questionnaire is appended, along with student suggestions. (SW) |
