| Abstract | This paper describes two methodologies designed to address deficiencies in training literature, i.e., procedures which empirically evaluate the content validity of training programs, and strategies linking training programs to needs reassessment and program redesign. In section 1, a methodology for establishing the job relatedness of a police recruit training program is presented. A description of the program is given and the design issues faced by the researchers are described in detail (strategies for linking content validity with a modified job element approach to job analysis) including identification of content domains, and evaluation of job relatedness. In section 2, a methodology for establishing the critical link between training evaluation and training program reassessment and redesign is presented. The technique, matching training emphasis and training needs, is conceptualized and presented graphically in a series of figures. A reference list and a series of nine tables illustrating the steps discussed in the two methodologies are also included. (PAS) |
