Abstract | The curriculum applies career counseling principles to students with learning and/or emotional problems. Social effectiveness training is combined with the career and life planning based approach. The model uses performance objectives and a behavior analysis approach to instruction, and increases student direction as the units progress. The following three units are detailed (sample activities in parentheses): social effectiveness skills (ways to change people's behavior toward you, use of diaries to increase self management, and contingency contracting); self awareness skills (finding out abilities, interests, and goals); and successful job campaign skills (role playing, job interviews, letter writing, skill analysis).
