AbstractThis annual report describes the activities carried out in the Comprehensive Career Development Program K-10 of the Akron (Ohio) Public Schools for the period July 1979-June 1980. Objectives of the program included implementing the K-10 career Education Program in a five-high school district, adding two additional districts, strengthening the collaborative realtionship with business-labor-industry in the Akron area, and continuing to improve the quality of field observations, hands-on experience, and use of resource personnel. Activities conducted included providing career orientation and exploration through on-the-job site visitations, speakers, and career supplementary materials; providing resources; and conducting extensive inservice education for the teachers and administrators of the involved schools. Each project site's career activities were assessed quarterly, and a third-party evaluation was conducted in April 1980. Pre- and posttests were administered to 163 tenth graders. Findings of the evaluation suggest that career development has been fully integrated into the instructional process in many school sites, but continuous support to education must still be provided to implement career education activities, and the level of funding per student should be increased. Appendixes contain inservice programs; the Akron Public School Career Education Program Assessment; information on field trips and speakers; summative evaluations; career guidance activities; information on non-traditional roles (sex-role stereotyping); special population assessment forms concerning the handicapped; dissemination material; and Akron Public School Facts, 1979-80.
